Midokoro for Premiere

Subtitles

Big subtitles ready for social networks, or an editable Premiere caption track.

Subtitles come from the transcript, so you need one loaded (see Find the best moments). You choose them in the Build step, under Subtitles.

Four options

No subtitlesThe clips are built without text.
Editable trackPremiere receives the subtitles as its own caption track, with its small default style. You change them afterwards like any Premiere caption.
With styleMidokoro draws big subtitles, in the style you choose, ready for social networks. They are placed over the clip as a layer.
BothThe editable track and the styled subtitles.
Without a transcript there are no subtitles: the panel lets you know and takes you back one step to load or generate one.

Review and fix the text

Before building, open Review the subtitles. You see each line with its time and can fix it (names, misheard words). You can also find and replace a word across all lines, and undo a line with ↺. Do it before building: styled subtitles are burned into the video and can no longer be edited in Premiere. What you fix is used in the editable track, in the styled subtitles, and in the subtitle files.

Adjust how they look

Below the options you see a preview that follows what you adjust:

How the words appearFull phrase, one word at a time, words build up, or karaoke (the last two only with style).
LinesFrom 1 to 3.
Letters per lineHow long each line is.
Size and heightOnly for styled subtitles.
Safe zonesA switch that shows, over the preview, what the social networks' buttons cover. It is only a viewing aid: it is not added to your clips.
In the editable track, size and position are set by Premiere with its own style (you change them in its Text panel). The rest (words, lines, letters per line) does change how the text is cut.

Subtitle files

Turn on Also save the subtitles as files (.srt, .vtt, .ass) to use them in other programs. They are saved next to the clips.

The styles

There are 19 styles, in three groups. You move from one to another with the ‹ › arrows (you see the number, for example 5/19) or with the drop-down menu, and the preview shows the chosen style over a frame of your video.

For social networks

  • Highlighted word: the whole phrase with the word being said on a yellow box.
  • Brand karaoke: the phrase fills in with gold as it is said.
  • Big with outline: one word at a time, huge and with a thick outline. For a fast rhythm.
  • Elegant minimal: thin letters, slightly spaced out, with a soft shadow. Discreet, for interviews and talks.

Simple

  • White with shadow: white text with a soft shadow. Clean and readable over any image.
  • Black box: white text on a semi-transparent black box. Readable even on a very bright background.
  • Classic yellow: the same old yellow of movie subtitles, with a black outline.

From Midokoro

Twelve styles of our own: Classic, Neon, Fire, Minimal, Retro, Newscast, Impact, Marker, Karaoke, Soft shadow, Cinema and Gold box.

The word-by-word styles (like Highlighted word, Karaoke or Impact) use the time of each word. If your transcript only has times per line, those styles group the words by line. To get the full effect, transcribe with a service that returns word times (see Connections).
