Midokoro for Premiere
Troubleshooting
The usual stumbling blocks and how to solve them.
The panel doesn't appear in Premiere
- Close Premiere completely and open it again after installing the
.zxp. - Check in Window → Extensions that Synthetic Midokoro for Premiere is listed.
- You need Premiere Pro 24.0 or later. In earlier versions the panel isn't shown.
- Reinstall the
.zxpwith ZXP Installer.
Activation fails
- If it says the key is not valid, copy it again from Dashboard → Licenses and check that it is the Midokoro for Premiere one.
- If it says the license is already active on 1 computer, release that computer from Licenses and activate again.
- If it says there is no connection, check your internet (a corporate network with HTTPS inspection can block it) and try again.
"The engine is locked"
The engine checks your license before it opens. Depending on the message:
| Needs activation | Activate your license on this computer and click Retry. |
| The authorization has expired | Connect to the internet so it renews and click Retry. |
| The license is no longer active | The license ended or this computer was removed from your account. Check Licenses and activate again. |
| Could not reach synthetic.com.ar | Connect to the internet and click Retry. |
| The service is not ready | Try again in a few minutes. |
| The engine files are damaged | Click Reinstall the engine. |
The engine doesn't start or closes
- Click Try again. If the engine closes in the middle of a job, the panel starts it again and asks you to repeat that job.
- An antivirus can close the engine. Add an exception for the Midokoro folder, or reinstall the engine from the panel.
- If it says the engine is missing, click Install the engine (you need your license activated).
FFmpeg is missing
Click Install FFmpeg and accept. If you don't have Windows Package Manager (winget), install FFmpeg by hand and restart Premiere. On Mac, if you don't have Homebrew, install it from brew.sh, run brew install ffmpeg-full in Terminal, and reopen the panel.
On Mac, styled subtitles don't appear
Your FFmpeg doesn't include the component that draws styled subtitles (this is the case with brew install ffmpeg, the standard version). The panel lets you know and offers to install the full version (ffmpeg-full). Meanwhile, the editable caption track works just the same.
"This file has no audio"
The chosen clip has no audio, so there is nothing to analyze. Choose another one, or one from your project that does have sound.
A clip appears "offline"
Premiere can't find the original file. Relink the media in Premiere and click Refresh in the panel.
Transcription fails or isn't usable
- If it says there are no times, the service returned only text. Use one that returns timestamps.
- If you load a file, use an SRT or VTT with times, or the text with times exported from Premiere.
- Check that the transcription service key is loaded and that Test connection comes out green.
The AI review fails
- "the key doesn't work" or "it doesn't have permission": the key was copied wrong, has expired, or isn't from that service. On some services a bad key also shows up as a format error: check the key and the model name.
- "I couldn't find that model": the model name doesn't exist on that service. Pick it from the list or fix the name with Other….
- Subscription not signed in: click Sign in to Claude Code (or to Codex), finish in the browser, and test again.
- "is not installed": install the official program (Claude Code comes with the Claude desktop app; Codex with ChatGPT) and reopen the panel.
- Codex rejects a model ("requires a newer version"): update Codex and test again, or choose another model.
- Usage limit: your subscription has reached its cap for now. Wait for it to renew or use an API.
- It takes a long time: a subscription is slower than an API, especially on long videos. If you don't want to wait, use an API.
If you have no AI connected, you can turn off AI review and find the moments only by voice energy and key words. It is faster, but the results are less refined.
No moments are found
Try a shorter clip, another transcript, or a lower minimum length. You can also click Look harder (a gentler bar). A recording with nothing that stands out may have no moments worth sharing.
The framing doesn't follow the speaker
- If you analyzed a sequence, stretches whose video can't be traced to a file (nested sequence, speed change, or missing file) end up centered. Choose the clip from Project clips.
- If two people share the shot, turn on Detailed check of who is speaking.
- With Fixed or Centered framing there is no following: change it to Automatic.
The subtitles don't appear
They need a transcript: go back one step to load or generate one. Also check that "No subtitles" isn't selected under Subtitles.
I want to remove what it built
Click Undo what was created right after building, or delete the clips' folder from Premiere's Project panel. See What ends up in your project.
